Khammam: BRS leaders across the erstwhile Khammam district on Wednesday lodged complaints with the police against Shadnagar Congress MLA Veerlapally Shankar over his reported comments wishing for former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s death.

In their complaints, the party leaders stated that a conspiracy to harm Chandrashekhar Rao had been exposed. The plot was allegedly orchestrated by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and others, who incited a specific group and planned to execute the act through MLA Shankar.

A large number of goons were mobilised in vehicles and taken to Chandrashekhar Rao’s Erravalli residence. Shankar’s statement during an interaction with the media was watched by people across Telangana and the country, they said.

Former SUDA chairman Bachu Vijay Kumar and former city wing president Pagadala Nagaraju, who lodged a complaint with the police in Khammam, said that making comments inciting harm to the BRS chief and wishing for his death was highly objectionable.

Criticising a political opponent was common in a democracy, but resorting to personal abuse, threats or comments that could incite violence was a serious matter. The State government should respond immediately, as such comments by a public representative could trigger public tension and clashes between supporters.

A comprehensive investigation into the alleged remarks made by MLA Shankar should be taken up by registering a case under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The role of anyone who might have encouraged or abetted the incident should also be investigated, he said.

Former MLA Rega Kantha Rao demanded that the government review Chandrashekhar Rao’s security in light of the MLA’s remarks. It was a disgrace to the State that a person like Revanth Reddy, with a criminal record involving more than 90 cases, had become Chief Minister, he said.

He suspected that Revanth Reddy might have colluded with leaders from Andhra Pradesh to hatch a conspiracy to cause harm to Chandrashekhar Rao’s life. That was why the MLA skipped the ongoing Assembly session and went to Erravalli, he added.
