SCCL claims action plan drawn to supply 75,500 tonnes of coal a day to TGGENCO plants

SCCL and TGGENCO have prepared a plan to ensure daily supply of 75,500 tonnes of coal to Telangana thermal power plants amid rising electricity demand and complaints over outages. The plan includes railway and road transportation from Singareni and Odisha

Hyderabad: Faced with complaints from farmers and domestic consumers over inadequate power supply and frequent outages, Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and Telangana GENCO have prepared an action plan to ensure the uninterrupted supply of 75,500 tonnes of coal a day to TGGENCO’s thermal power plants.

During a video conference on Tuesday, officials of both organisations reviewed the coal requirements of each plant, current supplies, coal quality, availability of railway rakes, loading and unloading operations, and transportation difficulties.

Accordingly, the meeting discussed a plan to supply 56,000 tonnes of coal a day through 14 railway rakes and another 19,500 tonnes by road. The plant-wise requirements were reviewed, with Kothagudem requiring 24,000 tonnes a day, Kakatiya 4,500 tonnes, Bhadradri 15,000 tonnes and Yadadri 34,000 tonnes.

For Yadadri, an action plan was drawn up to transport 8,000 tonnes a day through two rakes from the Naini coal block in Odisha and 36,000 tonnes through six rakes from Singareni’s local mines. Singareni officials said steps were being taken to increase supplies from Naini, according to a press release issued by SCCL.

Singareni’s Marketing Department officials said 15.02 lakh tonnes of coal had been supplied to TGGENCO power plants through road and rail transport up to September 28. During the corresponding period last September, the supply stood at 11.44 lakh tonnes.

TGGENCO officials informed the meeting that electricity demand had increased due to dry conditions associated with El Niño and that additional coal was required to support higher power generation. The meeting directed the concerned Area General Managers and Chief Engineers of the power plants to resolve issues relating to coal supply, transportation and receipt through close coordination.
