Hyderabad: Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) Chairman and Managing Director N Sridhar on Wednesday said the company was contemplating to enter into other ores sectors apart from coal mining and thermal and solar power sectors. Speaking after unfurling the national flag at Singareni Bhavan here in connection with 73rd Republic Day celebrations, he said the company was confined to Telangana only till now but as part of business expansion plans, it entered into thermal and solar power sectors and extraction of coal from blocks in other States.
Many government organisations have come up in the last 100 years in the country and later closed down due to losses, he pointed out. “Singareni, however, has been growing for the last 13 decades and has been progressing better than many giant government organisations and is attracting everyone’s attention,” he said. Employees were removed from services in several companies but the SCCL has recruited 16,000 people in the last seven years. The company stood in first place in terms of welfare of the employees, he said.
Production would start from the prestigious Naini coal block in Odisha from April and plans have been chalked out to start production from Newpatrapada also. The company was also seriously considering taking part in the auction of coal blocks in other States by the Central government. Following directions from the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, the SCCL has decided to take up iron ore extraction and sand, Sridhar said, adding that the company was planning to open 12 new mines in the next five years. With this, the company would be able to generate 100 million tonnes of coal production in the future.
Sridhar urged the employees to be prepared to face challenges from private companies in the coal industry in future. To compete with the private companies, it was essential for employees to use machinery to a maximum extent to increase production, he said. For its survival, any public sector undertaking should take necessary steps for expansion of business apart from focusing on increasing production and maintaining standards, he added.
