Peddapalli: Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) is set to commence coal supply from its prestigious Naini coal block in Odisha to Tamil Nadu Power Generation Corporation.
An annual supply of 2.88 million tonnes of G-11 grade coal has been agreed upon, and a Fuel Supply Agreement (FSA) between the two organisations is expected to be finalized within the next 10 days.
In this regard, a meeting was held on Friday at Singareni Bhavan, Hyderabad, between SCCL Chairman and Managing Director N Balram and Tamil Nadu Power Genco Managing Director M Govind Rao, to discuss the modalities of the coal supply arrangement.
Speaking on the occasion, Govind Rao stated that their 1,200 MW thermal power plant at Udangudi in Thoothukudi district requires 2.88 million tonnes of G-11 grade coal annually and requested Singareni to supply the required quantity.
Responding positively, SCCL CMD Balram confirmed that production at the Naini coal block had commenced and that Singareni was fully prepared to supply coal via both rail and waterways.
Directing Naini project officials to make necessary arrangements for coal dispatch, he instructed the coal transportation and marketing departments to ensure the FSA with Tamil Nadu Genco is completed within 10 days.
This agreement marks a significant step in strengthening the long-standing relationship between SCCL and Tamil Nadu Genco. Both Balram and Govind Rao expressed confidence that this partnership will further deepen in the coming years.
Singareni is already supplying 1.75 million tonnes of coal annually to the North Chennai Thermal Power Plant in Tamil Nadu. Now, an agreement has been reached for the supply of 2.88 million tonnes of coal per year from the Naini project in Odisha.
In this context, it is noteworthy that Tamil Nadu will become the first consumer of coal from the Naini block.
