Schoolchildren protest poor road condition in Asifabad, seek MLA’s intervention

Students from government and private schools staged a road blockade on the Lodpalli-Penchikalpet stretch in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district, demanding repairs to the rain-damaged road and removal of overgrown trees and bushes. The protesters urged MLA Dr P. Harish Babu and officials to take immediate action, claiming the poor condition of the road was causing injuries and safety risks.

Kumram Bheem Asifabad: School students staged a rasta-roko demanding local MLA Dr P Harish Babu to take immediate steps to repair a road battered by rains and to clear trees and bushes blocking the stretch between Lodpalli and Penchikalpet on Tuesday.

The students from not only government schools but also private ones expressed their anger against the legislator’s inaction. They regretted that they were facing severe inconvenience due to the pockmarked road which was blocked by overgrown trees and bushes. They raised slogans such as “MLA down down… He must come here,” insisting that the issue be addressed without delay.

The pupils, who commute to their schools by auto-rickshaws every day, claimed that they were sustaining injuries due to the potholes. They argued that the trees and bushes were reducing visibility, which could potentially lead to accidents. They lamented that travelling on the road had become a nightmare.

They declared that they would not withdraw their protest until either officials concerned or the MLA visited the site and resolved the problem. Certain auto-rickshaw drivers expressed solidarity to the protest.

Meanwhile, a video clip of the protest went viral on social media platforms prompting users of WhatsApp and Facebook to request that the legislator address the challenge at the earliest.
