Hyderabad: As part of enhancing infrastructure and augmenting capacity, the South Central Railway has completed electrification of 60 km of double line between Umdanagar and Gollapalli. This is a crucial portion connecting Hyderabad with major cities such as Kurnool, Anantapur, Bengaluru, Kadapa and Tirupati. The project is being executed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL).
The Secunderabad – Mahabubnagar doubling and electrification project is one of the critical projects for strengthening rail operations in Telangana, according to the SCR.
The project was sanctioned for a distance of 85 km in 2015-16 at an estimated cost of Rs.774 crore. The section between Secunderabad – Umdanagar for a distance of 28 km was excluded from the above project and undertaken as part of MMTS Phase II and has been completed. Doubling & electrification works in the balance section i.e., Umdanagar – Mahabubnagar for a distance of 85 km was undertaken in this project. The project is progressing at a fast pace, with the completion of the doubling between Umdanagar – Gollapalli for 60 km in two phases, an SCR release said, adding that completion of electrification of this 60 km stretch would enhance the travel experience for a continuous stretch between Secunderabad – Gollapalli for 88 km.
Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, SCR complimented officials for successful completion of electrification between Umdanagar–Gollapalli. He stated that SCR is on fast track in completing electrification works as per the target in order to provide seamless connectivity across Indian Railways.
SCR adds new halting stations in Singareni Train schedule
Khammam: South Central Railway (SCR) has added few more halting stations in the schedule of train number 7259-7260 that plies between Bhadrachalam Road (Kothagudem) station and Sirpur town station in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district. It might be noted that the train service, which was earlier called Singareni Fast Passenger Train, was stopped because of the Covid-19 outbreak. The SCR on July 19 resumed the train service between the above stations as it was the main link connecting coal belt areas in the State.
The train was now being run as an express train with reduced halting stations because of the pandemic situation. As the train was not being stopped at stations which were in its schedule in the past, the passengers faced inconvenience and took the matter to the notice of TRS Lok Sabha party leader and Khammam MP Nama Nageswara Rao.
The MP on Aug 17 wrote a letter to SCR General Manager (GM) Gajanan Mallya asking him to halt the train at some important railway stations which were in the schedule in the past. Following that the SCR was halting the train at Karepalli, Garla and Odela stations from Friday onwards.
The SCR GM called the MP Nageswara Rao over phone and informed him about halting of the train at the above stations. The locals have thanked the MP for taking initiative in convincing the SCR to halt the train at the above stations, said a release from the MP’s office here on Saturday.
