SCR to add 45 more MMTS services from July 1

MMTS services had suspended in March 2020 due to Covid induced lockdown and 10 services were resumed last week

Hyderabad: After resuming Multi Modal Transport Service (MMTS) trains from June 23 in the city, South Central Railway (SCR) will be adding 45 more MMTS services from July 1.

Due to the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic and to contain the spread of the virus, MMTS services were suspended from March 23, 2020. However, in line with the gradual resumption of train services being taken up under SCR limits, 10 MMTS trains service were resumed from June 23.


The MMTS service was introduced to cater to the needs of Intra-city and suburban traffic on August 9, 2003. Over time, the number of MMTS services was increased leading to rise in the patronage for these train service. Everyday, nearly 1.60 lakh passengers travel in 121 MMTS trains.

MMTS (Multi-Modal Transport Service) is one of the cheapest and economical modes of transport in twin cities. The MMTS services cater to a stretch of 50 Kms spread over Falaknuma – Secunderabad – Hyderabad – Begumpet – Lingampalli – Telapur – Ramchandrapuram covering 29 Railway stations, connecting the eastern part of the city with the western end.

The minimum fare for MMTS is Rs. 5 and the maximum fare is Rs. 15. In fact, the minimum fare of Rs. 5 is continuing since the inception of MMTS services. Season ticket facility is also available for daily commuters of MMTS.

In a statement issued here, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G. Kishan Reddy thanked the Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal for responding positively to operate more MMTS trains. He also appealed to the passengers to follow covid guidelines while commuting in the trains and at the stations.
