Hyderabad: The redevelopment of Secunderabad Railway Station, one of the busiest and most historic stations in South Central Railway (SCR), is progressing swiftly. The works were taken up under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, aimed at transforming it into a world-class transit hub with modern passenger amenities and improved connectivity.

The project, taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 714.73 crore, that have achieved 46 per cent completion so far, is being executed by Girdharilal Construction Private Limited, with the target set for completion by the end of 2025 or early 2026.

According to SCR officials, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) building has been fully completed, marking a major milestone in the redevelopment drive. Construction is actively underway for the air concourse, multi-level car parking (MLCP) facility, foot over bridges (FOBs), elevators, north-side main building, and south-side electrical substation, among other components.

On the south side, about 90 per cent of basement construction has been completed. The ground floor of this section will serve as a passenger drop-off zone, while the basement levels are being designed to accommodate parking for nearly 200 vehicles.

On the north side, construction of a six-storey multi-level car parking facility is progressing, with over half of the foundation works completed.

To meet the increased power demand of the redeveloped complex, two new 33 kV substations are being installed, replacing the existing 11 kV setup. This upgrade will ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply to the modernized station and its new facilities.

SCR officials emphasised that the redevelopment has been carefully planned to ensure minimal disruption to ongoing passenger services. The upcoming station complex will feature modern architecture, energy-efficient designs, and state-of-the-art amenities such as spacious waiting halls, escalators, lifts, digital information systems, and enhanced safety infrastructure.

“The works are being monitored closely to maintain pace and quality and are undertaken with strict adherence to safety standards,” said a SCR senior official.

Secunderabad Redevelopment Progress:

RPF Building: Completed

South Side: Basement construction 90 per cent complete, ground floor to serve as drop-off zone, basement for 200-vehicle parking

North Side: Work on multi-level car parking (MLCP) facility in progress
