Hyderabad: The Federation of Northeastern Colonies of Secunderabad, comprising residents from Cantonment, Sainikpuri, Vayupuri, Dr AS Rao Nagar, ECIL, Nagaram, Dammaiguda, Nedermet, Safilguda and Malkajgiri, launched a campaign on Wednesday demanding better road connectivity to their areas.

The campaign is an aimed at reaching out to the State government and municipal officials to highlight the lack of road connectivity to the densely populated colonies of the northeastern parts of Secunderabad.

On the first day of the campaign, the federation members decided to highlight the major bottleneck at the RK Puram flyover.

“This is Day 1 of our campaign in sensitising and reaching out to the authorities and the State government to widen the RK Puram road or give us a provision for another flyover besides the RK Puram flyover,” the residents said, adding, “We are struggling with a narrow RK Puram road over bridge (ROB).”

The demand for a new parallel flyover along the existing narrow RK Puram flyover has been pending for a long time. “It is not known as to why the State government and GHMC are not paying attention to this serious issue as citizens are affected every day by the traffic clogging on the flyover,” Vijay S Dabade, a resident of Cantonment, said on X.

The members pointed out that the RK Puram ROB is very narrow while the vehicular population has increased many fold. They said there is a need for a wider ROB than the existing one.

Another resident, Meena Ravindran, said on X: “The RK Puram road needs immediate attention. It is full of damaged topping and exposed metal. Appears so unsafe but the public has no choice.”

“The ROB is horrible during peak hours, poor citizens have no other option than being stuck in traffic jam for hours. I hope it is widened at the earliest,” another resident, Chandras, said.
