Kothagudem: Steps would be taken to provide proper compensation to farmers displaced by Seetamma Sagar Multi-purpose Project, said District Collector M V Reddy on Friday.
In a statement here, he said land acquisition for the Seetamma Sagar Project in Aswapuram, Manugur, Dummugudem and Cherla mandals in Kothagudem district was underway.
Around 3,500 acres of land would be required for the project and of the total land required, the primary drafting process for nearly 2,800 land was completed. The sarpanches of villages where the land was being acquired have requested to enhance the compensation and it would be taken to the notice of the State government.
About 339 acres of land in Aswapuram, 610 acres land in Manugur, 726 acres in Dummugudem and 1,446 acres land in Cherla mandal was acquired so far. There would be no threat to the habitations in the vicinity of the project as it was planned to construct a ‘karakatta’ (flood bank) on either side of the project to protect the habitations. Hence, people need not worry about the safety of their houses as won’t be any submergence of habitations with the project backwaters . As many as 65 gates would be installed to release the water, the Collector explained.
Reddy advised the irrigation officials to make arrangements for procuring gravel, sand, metal and other material required for the project construction beforehand.
