Yadadri-Bhongir: District Collector Pamela Sathpathy on Saturday exhorted women not to compromise on the protection of their rights. Speaking at a seminar on Women Empowerment- Judicial Services, organised by National Women Commission and District Legal Services Authority, she said women should be confident of facing any problem. She also underlined the need to create awareness among women about the laws against domestic violence and sexual harassment.
Stating that girls have equal rights in the family, she said gender discrimination should be rooted out from society. The women should achieve financial sufficiency, which would help in achieving their empowerment, she opined. Additional Principal Judge of Nalgonda district Court M Bhavani said the Indian Constitution provides equal rights to all the citizens irrespective of gender, caste and religion. Stating that the governments have brought several laws for the safety and protection of women and girls, she said that the women should familiarize themselves with the laws meant for them in particular.
Legal Services Authority secretary Venu said stringent punishment to culprits in crimes against women would help in reducing crimes against women. He also explained about Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act and The Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act at the seminar.
