Hyderabad: The Nizamabad district police on Tuesday arrested a serial killer, Mohammed Sharukh alias Javed, on charges of killing three persons including an elderly woman Narsamma within a year.

With the arrest of Sharukh, a resident of Kamalapur village in Ditchpally mandal, the police unraveled the mystery behind the murder of 60-year-old Narsamma, who went missing on August 5. He killed Narsamma with a boulder and dumped the body in bushes in a graveyard in Ghanpur after stealing cash from her.

The incident came to light when a cattle grazer noticed the body and informed the police, who rushed to the spot and took up investigation. When the police examined footage of surveillance cameras installed in Ghanpur and surroundings, the police noticed Sharukh was following her. The police then picked him up. During interrogation, he confessed to killing Narsamma.

At a press conference, Nizamabad Police Commissioner Kartikeya said that Sharukh met Narsamma at a toddy compound in Ghanpur and later followed her when she came out of the premises.

The body of Narsamma, a MGNREGA worker and resident of Ghanpur village, was found in the graveyard, he said, adding that police identified the body with the help of MGNREGA payment slip.

“When we were investigating Narsamma’s case, we came to know that Sharukh killed two other persons,” he said. In February 2021, Sharukh killed Shaik Mosin by smashing his head with a boulder for scolding him and made away with Rs.750 from his wallet.

In 2020, Sharukh killed Salman Khan, a resident of Mittpally and stole Rs.500 and a wrist watch from him. Police inquires revealed that Sharukh was allegedly involved in theft cases also. The police is likely to invoke the Preventive Detention (PD) Act against him.
