Hyderabad: Telangana Government Advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Sunday once again accused the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) of deliberately dividing Muslim votes in Bihar and indirectly helping the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This is even though the Congress and the AIMIM are both in an alliance in Telangana.
Campaigning for Congress candidate Dr Shakeel Ahmed Khan in the Kadwa constituency of Bihar, Shabbir Ali said AIMIM’s political foray into minority-dominated segments was aimed at weakening Muslim representation in the Assembly.
“The Kite (AIMIM’s symbol) does not fly towards secularism, instead it lands straight in the BJP’s box,” he told the gathering, urging voters not to be influenced by emotional or religious appeals. Each vote for AIMIM, he said, effectively benefits the BJP.
Expressing concern over AIMIM’s selective political strategy, Shabbir Ali questioned why the party contests aggressively in Bihar but avoids many constituencies in Telangana where it could directly challenge the BJP.
“For 54 years, the AIMIM party that could not cross River Musi in Hyderabad but suddenly wants to fight 100 seats in Bihar. Why not contest against Raja Singh in Hyderabad? Why choose only Muslim pockets elsewhere?” he asked.
He said such tactics exposed AIMIM’s real agenda, which was to divide secular votes and prevent the consolidation of Muslim support behind the Congress and its allies.
“This is not leadership, it is manipulation. Every time AIMIM appears in an election, the BJP gains ground,” he said.
