Hyderabad: Commencing from Sunday i.e. October 24, the sheep distribution scheme will be resumed and new sheep units will be handed over for eligible beneficiaries who have already paid their share, said Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav.
He also instructed the officials to expedite the release of fish seedlings and shrimp into all the water bodies selected under the scheme.
At a high-level meeting held at his office in Masab Tank on Friday, the Minister reminded that the sheep unit price has been increased from Rs 1.25 lakh to Rs 1.75 lakh and accordingly, the beneficiary component of 25 per cent of total unit cost also has been increased by Rs 12,500 from Rs 31,250 to Rs 43,750. In all, 2,797 beneficiaries have paid their share including the additional amount of Rs 12,500 and they will receive the sheep units each comprising of 20 sheep and one ram, from October 24 onwards. The officials have been directed to make necessary arrangements in this regard. The State government has spent more than Rs 5,000 crore for the first phase of the sheep distribution scheme.
Srinivas Yadav also wanted the officials to complete the free fish and shrimp distribution by achieving cent per cent targets before November 15. So far, about 32.26 crore fishlings have been released into 13,043 water bodies and another 12.6 lakh shrimp have been released into five reservoirs. The officials informed that there was a delay in releasing the fishlings and shrimp due to heavy inflows into various water bodies in the wake of recent rains.
The Fisheries Department officials were instructed to study the feasibility of producing fishlings of Korrameenu through the Fisheries Cooperative Federation and also take measures to produce the fishlings required for the scheme next year. He stated that a joint meeting will be organised with the Irrigation officials soon, to discuss taking up fisheries-related activities in irrigation projects under the Irrigation Department.
Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Secretary Anitha Rajendra, Fisheries Commissioner Latchiram Bhukya, Fisheries Federation managing director Ramchander and others participated in the meeting.
