‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ star Simu Liu wants Marvel Studios to adapt an aspect of the comics’s “Spider-Island” storyline.
It’s no secret that the trailer of our beloved friendly neighbourhood spidey went viral within minutes upon its release. From fans to critics to actors, everyone has been going gaga over how Marvel is coming back to theatres after over two years. While we wait for ‘Spiderman No Way Home’ to release, Marvel’s upcoming film ‘Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ has us excited with its mind-boggling cinematic action sequences.
Simu Liu (playing Shang Chi) seems to be a fan himself. Speaking to ‘Screenrant’, the star admitted how he wants Marvel Studios to adapt an aspect of the “Spider-Island” storyline from the comics where the master of Kung Fu – Shang Chi – teams up with Spider-Man to save the day.
For those who aren’t aware, during Marvel Comics’s 2011 “Spider-Island” storyline, hundreds of New Yorkers, including criminals, manifest spider-powers. As the Avengers attempt to defend the city, Spider-Man loses his Spider-Sense. The only solution to this that is recommended is that Peter train with Shang-Chi. Together, they develop a martial arts style known as the Way of the Spider, a hybrid version of Peter’s own combat style and Shang-Chi’s martial arts.
This cross-over seems insane and we would love for this to play out! Especially considering how Simu Liu and Tom Holland do quite a lot of the stunts on their own. But for now, catch the origin story of ‘Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ in theatres near you on September 3 in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada.
