PEDDAPALLI: Chairman and Managing Director of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), N Balaram, has set a record by personally planting 20,000 saplings.
Marking his birthday, Balaram planted 225 saplings on the overburden dump of the GK Opencast coal mine in the Kothagudem area on Tuesday, officially crossing the 20,000 milestone.
Balaram is reportedly the first civil services officer in the country to achieve such a feat in personal plantation efforts. A known environmental enthusiast, he began his tree-planting mission on June 5, 2019, on the occasion of World Environment Day. Since then, he has planted 20,000 saplings across 53 locations within SCCL.
Popularly referred to as the ‘Telangana Tree Man’, Balaram has inspired many through his commitment to green initiatives, including planting 500 saplings in a single day at Ramagundam-1 area on July 6 this year.
His efforts have drawn appreciation from workers, officials, and public representatives alike.
Meanwhile, the ongoing Vana Mahotsav is being observed on a large scale across SCCL. The company, which has already planted over 70 million saplings across 14,000 hectares, has set a target of planting 40,000 more saplings this year.
