Hyderabad: Popular Telugu folk singer Mangli has been booked for allegedly organising a liquor party without valid permission from the Excise Department during her birthday celebrations at Tripura Resort in Chevella on the outskirts of Hyderabad on Wednesday.
Officials said several other violations were identified by the police, including the suspected use of drugs, lack of necessary permissions from authorities, and the illegal use of DJ sound systems at the venue.
A raid was carried out jointly by the Cyberabad Special Operations Team (SOT) and Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB) around 2 a.m. As many as 48 guests, both men and women, were tested for drugs, and one person, identified as Damodar, was found to be under the influence of marijuana.
“The birthday party was organised without prior permission for serving foreign liquor from the Excise Department. Hence, a case was booked against the singer. The resort manager and DJ system operator were also booked for conducting the event without necessary permissions and violating police orders. Additionally, a case was booked against one individual found to be under the influence of a narcotic substance,” said a senior official from the Chevella division.
According to available information, a large number of film and political celebrities attended the party. The Chevella police have booked four persons so far in connection with the raid and are investigating the extent of substance abuse at the event.
Police are likely to issue notices to those who attended the party as part of the investigation. Based on further evidence, appropriate action will be taken against all those found involved, officials said.
