Mangalasutra hanging at the entrance of Tahsildhar office (Left), the widow Polasa Manga protesting
Rajanna-Sircilla: A woman whose land was allegedly occupied by her relatives illegally sought to highlight her plight through an innovative protest – tying her gold mangalsutra at the main entrance of the Tahsildhar’s office at Rudrangi in the district on Wednesday. She hung the mangalsutra in a symbolic gesture of offering bribe to revenue officials to set right the land records.
Polasa Manga, a native of Manala of Rudrangi mandal, owns two acre of land in survey no. 130/14 in the village. After the death of her husband Rajesham three years ago, her relatives illegally transferred the land onto their names. Since Manga lived in Metpalli where she had a job, her relatives allegedly took advantage of the situation and with the help of revenue officials, occupied her land after getting it transferred on their names.
When learnt about the mischief, she approached the revenue officials for justice. Though she has been making the rounds of the Tahsildhar’s office, she failed to get the land transferred onto her name.
Vexed by the revenue officials’ attitude, she staged the protest and asked the revenue officials to “do her the favour and accept the mangalsutra as bribe.”
Based on a complaint lodged by revenue officials, police shifted the woman to the police station and are questioning her.
