Mulugu: Six sand-bearing areas have been identified in the district. While two of them are in Mangapet mandal, the remaining four are in the Venkatapuram (Nugur), said District Collector S Krishna Aditya here on Friday.

Addressing a district-level meeting on the sand availability and number of applications submitted for quarrying and other issues on the sand held at the Collectorate, he directed the officials concerned to submit a report after identifying the boundaries of the sand reaches along with the Google earth images at the earliest. He also directed the officials to show proper causes/reasons for the closure of the sand reaches. Stating that the forest officials had denied NOC for sand quarrying in seven places in citing that they are under the eco-sensitive zone, he asked them to submit the proper documents and reasons for the denial of the permission during the next district level meeting scheduled to held on Wednesday.

139 applications finalised

While a total of 262 applications were submitted for the sand quarrying by societies and individuals, he said that 139 of them have been finalised. He asked the officials to conduct a joint survey to take a decision on the 123 pending applications at the earliest. Some sand-bearing areas are in the patta lands along the streams and the rivers. DRO Rama Devi, AD, Mining department, Raghubabu, DCO Sardhar Singh and other officials attended the meeting.
