SJFI mourns the passing of V. Sreenivasan, husband of P.T. Usha
The Sports Journalists' Federation of India expressed deep grief over the sudden demise of V. Sreenivasan, husband of P.T. Usha, recalling his contribution to Indian athletics and his pivotal role in the Usha School of Athletics.

Hyderabad: The Sports Journalists’ Federation of India (SJFI) expressed shock and grief at the untimely and sudden passing of Shri V. Sreenivasan, beloved husband of legendary athlete, Rajya Sabha MP, and President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), Ms. P.T. Usha.
Shri V. Sreenivasan breathed his last in the early hours of January 30, 2026, due to a massive heart attack at his residence in Kozhikode, Kerala. He was 67.
A former national-level Kabaddi player and a dedicated sports administrator, Shri Sreenivasan was a pillar of strength behind the Usha School of Athletics since its inception. As Treasurer of the institution, he played an instrumental role in its growth, providing unwavering guidance, support, and encouragement to nurture young athletic talent across the country. His quiet leadership, lifelong passion for sports excellence, and supportive nature earned him deep respect in the sporting fraternity.
The SJFI recalled with fondness his steadfast association with Indian athletics and his role in supporting one of India’s greatest sporting icons, Ms. P.T. Usha, throughout her illustrious career and beyond.
“This sudden loss has left an irreplaceable void in the sports community. SJFI stands in solidarity with Ms. P.T. Usha, her family, the Usha School of Athletics community, friends, associates, and well-wishers in this hour of profound sorrow,” SJFI release said.
“On behalf of the President, Honorary Secretary, Executive Committee, and all members of the Sports Journalists’ Federation of India, we extend our heartfelt condolences. May the Almighty grant strength and solace to the bereaved family to bear this immense grief, and may the noble soul of Shri V. Sreenivasan rest in eternal peace,” SJFI President Saraju Chakraborty and the SJFI Secretary Varikuppala Ramesh said in a statement.
