Karimnagar: Though the overall crime rate has reduced by 16.84 percent, cybercrime cases have increased in the Karimnagar Police Commissionerate areas in 2025. Compared to the previous year, there is an increase of 68 cybercrime cases. While 208 cases were registered in 2024, the number went up to 276 this year. Though the number is relatively small, it has become a cause of concern as cyber criminals are using different methods to cheat the public and take away money.
Out of 2,437 petitions received through the NCRP portal, FIRs were registered in 280 cases. As many as 205 cases were detected through CDRs and an amount of Rs 1.10 crore was refunded in 352 cases.
On the other hand, the number of cases registered under IPC and SLL declined to 5,126 from 6,164 cases recorded in 2024. There is no major change in burglary, murder, rape, kidnapping, crime against women, suicides, missing cases and other cases.
Disclosing details of the annual crime report to media persons at a press conference here on Saturday, Commissioner of Police Gaush Alam said that the year 2025 has been largely incident-free. To give equal priority to women on par with men, female police personnel were deployed in different wings. Besides taking all precautions to maintain law and order, traffic enforcement was also carried out in an effective manner.
The CP informed that the Karimnagar commissionerate secured second place in the state in the QR code-based citizen feedback system introduced by Telangana police on January 9, 2025. Out of 210 feedbacks given to the commissionerate by the public, 209 were positive and only one was negative, he said. Speaking about security arrangements for New Year celebrations, the CP said that 44 check points would be set up across the commissionerate to conduct drunk driving tests and maintain law and order. Of these, 30 would be in Karimnagar town.
SHE teams would also be deployed at bus stands and other areas to check eve-teasing. Stating that people would not be allowed onto the bund of Lower Manair Dam and the cable bridge, he said DJ sound systems and firecrackers would not be permitted on December 31 night. A special focus would be laid on drug usage at farmhouses and guest houses located on the outskirts of the town. Tests would be conducted using drug testing kits.
