Hyderabad: The South Central Railway (SCR) will be undertaking several projects including the laying of new lines, double lines, third lines and electrification in the year 2022-23. Highlighting the Budgetary allocation, SCR General Manager Sanjeev Kishore during a virtual press conference here on Thursday said that a total of Rs 3,048 crore has been sanctioned for the infrastructure projects and safety works in Telangana, which is 26 per cent more than the last year.
The SCR — which includes Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka — has been allocated Rs 8,334 crore towards infrastructural work, such as laying the third line from Kazipet to Vijayawada and from Kazipet to Balharshah, a new line from Akkannapet to Medak, from Bhadrachalam to Sattupalli, and from Munirabad to Mahbubnagar, and, electrification and doubling from Narsapur to Nidadavolu and from Secunderabad to Mahabubnagar.
Station development works are also among the other important projects that the SCR will be undertaking this year, for which the government allocated Rs 325 crore. A budget of Rs 45 crore for the POH workshop at Kazipet and Rs 70 crore towards the development of satellite terminal at Cherlapalli Station was also sanctioned. The SCR will also undertake several developmental works at the Secunderabad station. An amount of Rs 7 crore has been allocated towards construction of a new crossing between Umdanagar and Timmapur stations.
The Budget has also allocated funds towards important safety-related works, such as level crossings, bridges and track renewal. An amount of Rs 54 crore has been allocated for the implementation of Kavach, which is an indigenously developed Train Collision Avoidance System (TCAS).
