Special drive for prevention of Chikungunya from October 3: GHMC Commissioner Amrapali Kata

The Commissioner suggested surveying around 50 to 100 houses in areas where a case of Chikungunya is reported and taking up anti-larval operation and fogging to check mosquito breeding grounds.

Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner Amrapali Kata has directed the authorities concerned to undertake a special drive and conduct anti-larvae operation programs from October 3 to prevent Chikungunya cases.

The Commissioner suggested surveying around 50 to 100 houses in areas where a case of Chikungunya is reported and taking up anti-larval operation and fogging to check mosquito breeding grounds. The officials were also instructed to visit locked houses, construction sites, function halls, open plots and educate the representatives of the Residential Welfare Association about the precautions to be taken to prevent Chikungunya.


Amrapali also stressed the need for creating awareness on cleaning water in te

water storage tanks, drums and coolers and remove empty coconut shells and tyres. The Commissioner also suggested that the pits with stagnant water should be covered, oil balls released in dirty water and Gambushia fish in the fresh water.

Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Sangareddy, Medchal District Medical and Health Officers, in coordination with the GHMC officials, were ordered to carry out tests for cases of Chikungunya registered in private hospitals.
