Karimnagar: BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar on Saturday said the State government was strengthening local bodies by directly sanctioning funds for their development.
Notwithstanding the municipal and local bodies’ funds, the State government was sanctioning special funds too to take up various developmental works, said the Minister who participated in various developmental works in Huzurabad on Saturday.
While all the municipalities were going ahead with developmental activities, Huzurabad was lagging behind because former local MLA and BJP leader Eatala Rajender had neglected his constituency. Though Huzurabad was upgraded as a municipality, no developmental activity took place and the condition of roads and drainage was in bad shape, he pointed out.
When this was brought to the notice of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, he immediately sanctioned Rs 35 crore – Rs 25 crore for construction of drainages and laying roads and Rs 10 crore to lay pipelines.
When informed that the funds were not sufficient, the Chief Minister sanctioned another Rs 15 crore, he said, adding that the Huzurabad-Bornapalli road would be taken up at a cost of Rs six crore. “The works will be taken up once the tender process is completed,” he said, adding that pavements on either side of the road would also be developed.
SC Corporation Chairman Banda Srinivas, Karimnagar Mayor Y Sunil Rao and others participated in the programme.
