Hyderabad: Kerala speedster S Sreesanth (5/65), who is returning to domestic cricket after a gap of seven years, took his first five-wicket haul against Uttar Pradesh in the on-going Vijay Hazare Trophy 50-overs tournament at the KSCA stadium in Bengaluru on Monday.
The 38-year-old fast bowler was banned for IPL spot-fixing before the Supreme Court had overturned the verdict. On his return, he played in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament before playing in this domestic one day tournament. Thanks to his fine spell on Monday, Kerala restricted Uttar Pradesh to 283 in 49.4 overs and Kerala chased the target in 48.5 overs.
Sreesanth scalped UP opener Abhishek Goswami (54). The former India pace man, who also dismissed Akash Deep Nath, captured the last three wickets in the UP innings, including that of rival skipper and India paceman Bhuvneshwar Kumar for 1. Sreesanth has seven wickets from two matches after this five-wicket haul.
Sreesanth, who had a base price of Rs 75 lakh, was rejected by the eight franchises in the IPL auction last week. He even said: “It was honestly disappointing not to make the cut but I am really alright. If I can wait 8 years to make a comeback into cricket, I can wait for some more time. No more sympathies are needed because guys I am absolutely happy,” Sreesanth had said, in the lengthy video posted on Instagram.
