Hyderabad: The annual Sri Rama Navami Shobha Yatra commenced on a grand note in the city on Friday afternoon, witnessing a massive turnout of devotees amid elaborate security arrangements.

The procession began from Seetarambagh, where Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla attended as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the rally. Thousands of devotees joined the shobha yatra, with the crowd swelling steadily as it progressed.

Currently, the procession is moving through Bhoiguda Kaman, with participants chanting devotional hymns and engaging in cultural performances. Decorated idols, traditional displays and spiritual fervour are adding colour and vibrancy to the event, which is expected to continue till night.

The shobha yatra, which started earlier from Akashpuri Hanuman Temple in Dhoolpet, will pass through key areas including Seetarambagh, Mangalhat, Puranapul, Begum Bazaar, Afzalgunj, MJ Market and Putlibowli, before culminating at Hanuman Vyayamshala in Sultan Bazaar. The procession is being led by local leaders, including T Raja Singh, along with several religious organisations.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad Police have made extensive arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the event. City Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar personally inspected the security setup in Seetarambagh earlier in the day.

Addressing the media, the commissioner stated that a detailed route plan has been implemented, with the procession scheduled to conclude by around 10 pm. Over 3,000 police personnel have been deployed, supported by CCTV surveillance, drones and bomb disposal teams to monitor the situation round the clock.

Traffic restrictions and diversions have been enforced at major junctions such as Begum Bazaar, Afzalgunj, MJ Market and Koti to regulate vehicular movement.

As part of precautionary measures to maintain communal harmony, certain mosques along the route, including Siddiamber Bazar Masjid, have been covered with white cloth, an annual practice aimed at ensuring the peaceful conduct of the procession.

Officials confirmed that the celebrations are proceeding peacefully, with continuous monitoring in place to prevent any untoward incidents.
