Hyderabad: Former Minister V Srinivas Goud came down heavily on the Congress government for its failure to utilise available floodwater, particularly in drought-prone Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda districts. He accused the government of criminal negligence in water management.
Speaking at a press conference at Telangana Bhavan on Friday, Srinivas Goud said that although water is reaching Jurala from Almatti and Tungabhadra, the Congress government has made no effort to divert or store it.
“Water is flowing down the drain while Nettempadu and Bhima projects have hit rock bottom,” he said, adding that not even a single review meeting has been conducted on the matter.
He pointed out that reservoirs like Sangam Banda remain unrepaired and unused, while canals under the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Project are still incomplete. He demanded immediate repairs to Sangam Banda and Bhootpur reservoirs.
“Gravity flow from Jurala is possible, but the government is in deep slumber,” he said, adding that Jurala urgently needs desiltation as storage levels are falling.
The former Minister said that Mahabubnagar, the Chief Minister’s own district, is suffering due to the Congress government’s apathy, with no relief measures in place to ensure water supply from the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy project.
He warned that the government would be solely responsible if farmers continue to suffer due to the lack of irrigation.
