Hyderabad: Members of the Paramedical Professions Joint Forum and the Society of Indian Radiographers of Telangana have urged the State government to establish the State Council for Paramedical Professions, aimed at regulating and standardizing education and practices across paramedical fields.
The proposed State Council would function under the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) Act, 2021, ensuring quality and professionalism in healthcare services, they said.
In a memorandum submitted to Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha, representatives of various paramedical services said, “The National Commission for Paramedical Professions was established in March 2021 to bring 57 different types of paramedical professions under one umbrella. As per this Act, a State Council must be established in every State.”
The Telangana government had set up a State Council in 2022 with a Chairman and three co-opted members, but other professional members were not appointed. Dr. Vijay Kumar from NIMS was appointed Chairman, but his term ended without the Council taking any steps or conducting activities. It was expected that the Council would be reconstituted after the new government came to power, but no decision has been made so far, the members said.
Shirandas Srinivas, Principal of NIMS College of Paramedical Science; Dr. Vijay Kumar, former Council Chairman; Damodara Naidu, President of the Society of Indian Radiographers, Telangana; and Manchala Ravender, General Secretary of the Paramedical Professions Joint Forum, among others, met the Health Minister and submitted the memorandum.
