Statehood martyrs Dastagiri, Ramachander remembered; homage paid to Prof. Jayashankar
Leaders of Toli-Mali Telangana Udyama Porata Samithi paid homage to 1969 Telangana martyrs Dastagiri and Ramachander in Kothagudem and remembered Prof. K. Jayashankar on his birth anniversary, urging people to honour their contributions to the statehood movement.
Kothagudem: Toli-Mali Telangana Udyama Porata Samithi leaders paid homage to the first martyrs of 1969 Telangana statehood movement, Dastagiri and Ramchander on their death anniversary and to Telangana ideologue Prof. K Jayashankar on his birth anniversary.
Speaking at a programme at Telangana Martyrs Memorial at bus stand centre here on Thursday the samithi state president Sravanaboyina Narsaiah Mudiraj said Dastagiri and Ramchander were foundational figures for the initial phase of the movement while Prof. Jayashankar was the guiding spirit for the second phase of the movement.
He wanted Telangana politicians, administrators and the general public to always remember and honour these three iconic figures who sacrificed their lives for the cause of statehood.
Ramchander and Dastagiri were killed in police firing on August 5, 1969, in Kothagudem during a protest and serve as inspiring role models whose sacrifice lies at the very foundation of the movement. A memorial was built at the bus stand centre in their honour, he revealed.
Narsaiah along with the samithi leaders Kakelli Simon, Safdar Baig, Pilli Rajaiah, Kudikyala Sammaiah, Sarigadi Lakshmi Narayana, Aleemuddin, Malli Arjun, Prabhakar and Rammurthy also paid tributes at Telangana Amara Jyothi in Hyderabad on Wednesday in memory of Dastagiri and Ramchander
