Student loses Rs 37,500 to cyber fraudster in Mancherial
A student from Mancherial lost Rs 37,500 to a cyber fraudster while applying for an education loan through a bank’s website. The fraudster extracted the money as fake processing charges. The victim reported the scam to police via the 1930 cybercrime helpline.
Mancherial: A student lost Rs 37,500 to a cyber fraudster when he applied for an education loan on the website of a bank in Mandamarri on Sunday.
Mandamarri Sub-Inspector Rajashekahr said that a student from 3rd Zone in the town received a call from a fraudster who gathered details of his education, PAN and Aadhar card before extracting Rs 37,500 under the guise of charges for processing the loan in a phased manner.
The student realized that he was duped when he did not get the loan. He then approached the police by contacting the toll free number 1930 for reporting cyber crimes. A case was registered. Investigation is on.
