A company lost Rs 1.2 crore after a cyber fraudster impersonated its owner on WhatsApp and tricked an accountant into transferring funds. The fraud was discovered days later, and police suspect the scam exploited trust and lack of verification.
A student from Mancherial lost Rs 37,500 to a cyber fraudster while applying for an education loan through a bank’s website. The fraudster extracted the money as fake processing charges. The victim reported the scam to police via the 1930 cybercrime helpline.
The farmers Jillela Mohan from Bheempur mandal, Nakkala Jagadish of Thantoli, Nagubai belonging to Chinchughat, Ashamma from Arli (T), Jalala Venkati and Jagadamba fertilizers thanked the superintendent for striving hard to recover Rs 8 lakh illegally diverted by an employee of the postal department to his account in 2024.
The ordeal began for the victims on November 13, when the elderly woman, a resident of Basheerbagh, received a phone call from a man claiming to be an employee of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI)
The arrested individual Pappu Patel, a resident of Mumbai is involved in a cyber-fraud case registered in 2010 at Cyber crime station Crime Investigation Department.
