Hyderabad: Demanding action against corporate colleges where student suicides have been reported, the Students Federation of India (SFI) state committee staged a protest at Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TG BIE) here on Saturday. The student organisation wanted the government to conduct vigilance raids on the corporate colleges, which have been running without necessary permission.
SFI Telangana president RL Murthy and general secretary T Nagaraju lamented that the State government has not responded despite a series of students’ suicide cases reported in these institutions. They alleged that corporate colleges were exerting pressure on students for fees, ranks and marks, forcing them to study from morning to late nights.
They also alleged that students have been facing pressure and harassment from lecturers in these colleges.
Murthy, along with Nagaraju, who submitted a representation to TG BIE Secretary Krishna Aditya S, demanded constitution of a high-level committee, ensuring action against colleges that have been running without permission. The SFI also wanted IT raids to be conducted in these colleges as they have been admitting students in the hostels, which do not have government permission and charging hefty fees.
