Khammam/Mahabubabad: Displaying courage amid personal tragedy, two students from Khammam and Mahabubabad districts appeared for the SSC examinations that commenced on Saturday.
Gandepalli Manikanta, a Class X student of Bathulapalli High School in Kallur mandal of Khammam district, lost his father Gandepalli Kondal Rao just a day before the examinations began on Friday morning. Kondal Rao died while undergoing treatment for an illness at the Government General Hospital in Khammam. Despite the immense grief of losing his father, Manikanta appeared for the examination, an act that moved his fellow students and villagers.
In another heart-rending incident, Daravath Vasantha, a student from Ganyachakra Thanda in Gudur mandal of Mahabubabad district, had to face the grievous loss of both her parents just hours before her examination. Her parents, Daravath Somu and Mangamma, who were living and working in Patancheru in Hyderabad to earn a livelihood, were murdered during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. Vasantha, the younger daughter of the murdered couple, appeared for her examination with moral support from local residents, who accompanied her to the examination centre.
A pall of gloom has descended on the village following the tragic death of her parents. Vasantha attended the last rites of her parents after completing her examination.
