Warangal: Senior journalist Pandilla Laxma Reddy has urged the government polytechnic teaching faculty members to ensure that the students of their respective colleges read newspapers regularly as it would not only help the students to improve their reading and writing skills in that particular language, but also help develop good communication skills as effective communication skills would help the students get hired easily.
Stating that the newspapers are an ‘authentic source of information’, Reddy, however, added that the readers should be cautious while subscribing to a newspaper, and added that they can choose their choice of newspaper. Delivering a lecture on ‘Article writing in journalism’ as a part the ongoing three-week industrial training programme for the government polytechnic colleges Reddy, said that the print media was under severe stress in the recent times with the advent of electronic media first, and then the social media including the websites.
“Despite threat from the social media including online media, and electronic media, newspapers have not lost their relevance. They still had their own importance due for various reasons. Cultivating a habit of reading the newspaper regularly will certainly improve one’s communication skills and confidence levels,” he observed and suggested to the participants to ensure their students to make use of their access to news. He also explained nuances in filing news for the daily newspapers, different types of news, feature stories, and articles.
Reddy detailed the differences between the articles in newspapers/magazines and articles in research journals (peer reviewed journals). This three-week training programme commenced here on Monday. Department head Prof Kontham Purushotham and other faculty members P Nirmala, Deepa Jyothi, Srinivas Vooradi and others were present.
