SUDA chairman jibe: ‘Who is that fellow?’ remark lands Renuka Chowdhury in hot water
Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury’s sharp criticism of SUDA chairman Puvvalla Durga Prasad has triggered backlash from Khammam Congress cadres, exposing factional rifts. Party leaders and workers accused her of arrogance, questioned her commitment to the district, and defended Durga Prasad as a grassroots leader loyal to Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka.
Khammam: Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury’s remarks against newly appointed SUDA chairman Puvvalla Durga Prasad not only exposed internal differences in Khammam Congress but also attracted severe criticism from the party cadres.
It is said that Renuka Chowdhury’s faction has been upset with Durga Prasad’s appointment as Stambhadri Urban Development Authority (SUDA) as she wanted one of her followers Radha Kishore, a former market committee chairman, to be appointed as its chairman.
In a recent television channel interview the MP expressed her anger openly over the appointment while questioning how the appointee was qualified for the post. She, referring to Durga Prasad, said: ‘Who is that fellow, what is his qualification’ while making rather caustic remarks against Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka.
Taking serious exception to Renuka Chowdhury’s comments the party cadres and supporters of Durga Prasad, a follower of Vikramarka, launched a scathing attack on social media against the MP while some cautioned her to control her tongue while speaking about the party leaders.
It is inappropriate to make unnecessary remarks against leaders who have toiled for the Congress party throughout their lives. Renuka Chowdhury’s remarks regarding Durga Prasad hurt the party workers’ sentiments, said the party district secretary Koppula Govinda Rao.
Chintakani mandal Congress president Kanneboina Gopi cautioned the MP not to mistake the patience of the party workers for weakness while telling her to stop being arrogant and work for the party’s unity.
He stated that the people of Khammam district have not yet forgotten that Renuka Chowdhury abandoned dedicated workers after winning MP seat on Congress ticket in 2019. Durga Prasad is a ‘man of the soil’ who worked tirelessly for the party for the past many years.
The MP’s comments hurt the self-respect of Congress party cadres and know how to deliver a fitting retort to anyone who insults them. Renuka Chowdhury, who visits the district only once every six months, lacks the standing to criticise Durga Prasad, Gopi said.
Meanwhile an anonymous Congress worker in a message posted on a Congress WhatsApp group accused Renuka Chowdhury of exploiting the party to serve her own personal interests after the bifurcation of the united state of Andhra Pradesh in 2014.
He noted that people in Khammam are left bewildered, unable to comprehend why the Congress party continues to carry Renuka Chowdhuryand wondered who she is; what her connection to Khammam district is.
