Suicide prevention awareness programme held at Khairatabad Government Degree College

The SDG Club of Government Degree College, Khairatabad, organised a suicide prevention awareness programme to encourage open discussions on emotional well-being and mental health among students.

Hyderabad: The SDG Club at Government Degree College, Khairatabad, instituted by the Youngistaan Foundation, organised a suicide prevention awareness programme on the college premises here on Wednesday. The event aimed to create a space for students to talk openly about emotional well-being and to look out for one another, in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3.

A panel comprising Santhosh Vennamalla, counselling psychologist and trainer, Jaya Anasurya Nayak, trainer in trauma healing and communication skills, and Vinayaka, the college vice-principal addressed students about noticing when someone is struggling and responding with care.

“If you go to a hospital for a heart attack, why not for mental health,” Vennamalla asked students, urging them to treat emotional distress as seriously as any physical illness.

Sanjana Boinpally, a BSc student, recited a poem she had written on the theme. Students performed a skit and a dance on the theme. Several students and attendees shared personal reflections and testimonies deeply moved those present in the room.
