Hyderabad: Film producer Suresh Babu’s decision to release action drama ‘Narappa’ on Amazon Prime Video has dampened the spirits of most of actor Venkatesh’s fans.
Though the movie is made to suit the big screen audiences, the makers Suresh Babu and S Thanu have opted out for OTT platforms rather than waiting for theatres to get reopened.
As cool as he appears in his usual tone, Suresh Babu says, “I sensed that a possible third wave would affect Narappa’s release. I felt that it is unfair to expect audiences to come to multiplexes when we ourselves are not ready to send our family to theatres. ‘Narappa’ is jointly produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu and me. And one of Kalaipuli S Thanu’s recent action drama ‘Karnan’ which was released in theaters just before the second wave started, had caused huge revenue loss to him. This decision worried me about the theatrical release of ‘Narappa’,” said Suresh Babu
Suresh Babu further added that as a producer, he needs to know how much his movie would earn. “Selling it to Amazon Prime assures that it would reach out to the maximum audiences. For the amount of hard work the artistes have put in, the OTT platform serves well,” the producer says, adding that digital space comes as a blessing to the entertainment industry.
Reacting on the reopening of theatres, Suresh Babu said, “The movie exhibitors are those who were badly hit in the movie industry during the pandemic. State governments of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana must come forward to help the movie exhibitors and put them back on economic track.”
