Suryapet: Athmakur(S) Sub-Inspector M Lingam has been placed in Vacancy Reserved for physically torturing a tribal youth in the name of inquiry in a theft case. Superintendent of Police Rajendra Prasad issued orders attaching Lingam to the district headquarters.

The police took the tribal youth Gogulothu Veerashekhar into custody for questioning in connection with a theft case. They released him and informed the family members that he fell sick during questioning.

However, the tribals staged a dharna at Athmakur(S) police station alleging that Veerashekhar fell sick due to the physical torture of the police. They demanded action against the police personnel responsible and also sought justice to Veerashekhar.
