Suryapet: Investigating Sunday’s case of suspected honour killing, the Suryapet Rural police has taken two individuals into custody for interrogation.
The accused are close relatives of the woman, whom the victim, Vadlakonda Krishna, a Dalit youth, married six months ago defying threats from her family. Krishna, a resident of Mamillagadda, had fallen in love with a girl from an upper caste family.
Despite the constant watch and opposition from her family, the couple made every effort to pacify them, hoping to lead a peaceful life within the village. However, their hopes were shattered.
On Sunday evening, Krishna received a call from Mahesh, a resident of Tallagadda, a neighbouring village. He left immediately to meet him but did not return home. As he did not respond to calls, his family grew frantic, searching for him with the help of friends, but to no avail.
Tragically, Krishna’s body was found abandoned and defaced on the bank of the Musi canal near the village. It appeared that someone had brutally smashed his head with stones, indicating deep-seated animosity.
The brutal murder is suspected to be the work of unknown assailants, but the involvement of the girl’s family members is strongly suspected. Krishna’s wife had reported receiving repeated threats from various quarters after their marriage.
The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation, picking up some relatives of the deceased for interrogation.
