Suryapet: A police Sub-Inspector tendered his resignation to contest the upcoming gram panchayat elections as sarpanch.
Puli Venkateshwarlu, currently posted as SI in Kodad town, submitted his resignation on Saturday. He opted for voluntary retirement to contest for the Sarpanch post in his native Gudibanda village of Kodad mandal in Suryapet district.
Speaking after submitting his resignation, Venkateshwarlu said his sole aim is to serve the village where he was born and brought up.
“I want to work for the development of my village. Serving my native place is my priority,” he stated. Gudibanda is classified as a major gram panchayat with a total population of 4,486 and 3,813 voters spread across 12 wards.
With several senior government employees, including police personnel, showing interest in local body polls this year, Venkateshwarlu’s decision has drawn local attention.
