Hyderabad: The Telangana Polytechnic Joint Action Committee (TP-JAC), which met the State government-constituted high-level committee here on Saturday, opposed the merger of polytechnics with the Young India Skills University (YISU) under the Shakti department and vowed to continue its peaceful protest until the government withdraws GO MS No. 97.

During the meeting with the high-level committee, headed by Advisor to Government (Public Affairs) K. Keshava Rao, TP-JAC chairman M. Nagaraju, convener V. Suresh and secretary-general B. Sravan Kumar presented a report explaining why the Technical Education department, the State Board of Technical Education and Training (SBTET) and polytechnic colleges should not be merged with YISU, which was established under the public-private partnership mode.

The TP-JAC office-bearers demanded that government polytechnics continue to function under the Technical Education department within the existing academic and administrative framework.

They also sought the continuation of SBTET’s existing role in polytechnic academic matters, examinations and the issuance of diploma certificates, noting that it was established as a statutory body under the education law in accordance with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) framework.

“Polytechnics should continue to function within the Education department to ensure academic quality, continuity, proper regulation and the overall development of students,” Nagaraju said.

According to the TP-JAC, Rao assured the representatives that no further decision would be taken without consulting the polytechnic staff.
