Hyderabad: Skipper Tanmay Agarwal struck a scintillating 59-ball 97 not out while left-arm seamer CV Milind returned with deadly figures of 5/16 as Hyderabad recorded a big 61-run win over Uttarakhand in the Elite Group E league match in the T20 Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament in Sultanpur (Haryana) on Friday.
Batting first, left-handed Tanmay, who continued his good form, took Hyderabad to a challenging score of 167/5 in 20 overs. Uttarakhand, in reply, were bowled out for 106 in 18.3 overs as Milind wrecked havoc with the ball. This was Hyderabad’s second win from two matches after they eked out a narrow win over Saurashtra on the opening day on Thursday.
It was Tanmay who stole the show in the first session. The diminutive skipper was in blazing form. He slammed seven fours and six sixes. Hyderabad were in a spot at the start. India A skipper G Hanuma Vihari was out for 7. Left-hander Tilak Varma made only 22-ball 15. Hyderabad lost three wickets in a space of 14 runs as Himalay Agarwal (0) and Rohit Rayudu (4) joined Varma in the pavilion.
Kolla Sumanth, who steered Hyderabad to victory against Saurashtra in the company of Milind, was dismissed for 10. Hyderabad were 107/5 in 15.5 overs. However, at the other end, Tanmay batted solidly as he reached his 50 off 52 balls. Then Tanmay and Rahul Buddhi (24 not out, 13b, 3×4, 1×6) blasted the Uttarakhand attack with a busy stand of 60 runs in 37 deliveries.
It was the turn of Milind to hog the limelight for Hyderabad in Uttarakhand’s chase. Milind picked his first wicket by dismissing Jay Bista in the fifth over and then sent back captain Kunal Chandela five balls later. Vihari, who returned with impressive figures against Saurashtra, scalped the wicket of Saurabh Rawat. Skipper Tanmay made timely bowling changes that put Uttarakhand on the back foot. Left arm spinner Tanay, who bowled tightly, bagged the wicket of Robin Bisht. Medium-pacer Rakshann made it 95 for 6 after Rohit Rayudu packed off D Negi. Milind completed a fine day as he took the next three wickets of VR Jethi, Mohd Nazim and M Mishra.
