Heavy rains across Telangana and the upper Krishna and Godavari basins have sharply increased inflows into major irrigation projects, prompting authorities to release water downstream. Officials have issued flood alerts while reservoir levels continue to rise amid sustained monsoon activity.
Heavy rainfall in Maharashtra and Karnataka has increased inflows into the Priyadarshini Jurala Project, easing Telangana's drinking water concerns. The rising flows have boosted irrigation, revived hydropower generation and are expected to improve water availability at the Srisailam reservoir during Kharif.
The Krishna catchment in Maharashtra and Karnataka continued to receive heavy rains and the inflows into the Upper Krishna projects right from Almatti remained on the rise.
Speaking to the media here, Sukender Reddy said the State government had declared a crop holiday for the ayacut of the left canal of Nagarjuna Sagar Project (NSP) for the Yasangi crop season due to the drastically dip in water levels in the project.
