Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay launched the expanded breakfast scheme for Classes VI to VIII, benefiting 15.30 lakh additional students across 15,454 government and aided schools. The expansion received Rs 217.63 crore additional funding, taking the programme’s total budget to Rs 724 crore
Schools across Telangana reopened for the 2026-27 academic year after a 52-day summer vacation. Attendance remained low as reopening coincided with Amavasya. The State government also relaunched the breakfast scheme and introduced a milk scheme in select government schools.
The Telangana government will roll out breakfast and milk/ragi schemes in 1,302 schools and junior colleges from Monday, covering over 1.44 lakh students. Midday meals will also be introduced in junior colleges, with Hare Krishna Movement and Mana Trust tasked with preparation and distribution.
The Telangana Congress government is set to revive the breakfast scheme in 1,700 schools across Greater Hyderabad, but the rollout may not begin on July 15 as tenders are still being finalised.
On several occasions, KTR criticised the ruling party for stopping the breakfast scheme meant for economically weaker students studying in the government schools
