The regional examination committee rejected the ‘Marco’ producers' request for category conversion on February 19, T Nadeem Thufali, regional officer of CBFI, told PTI on Wednesday. Starring Unni Mukundan, the film, one of the highest-grossing with an ‘A’ certificate, was released on December 20 last year and began streaming on SonyLIV from February 14.
On Thursday, the actress shared an update with her followers in her Instagram Stories, stating, “We have received the certificate for our movie ‘Emergency’ and will announce the release date soon. Thank you for your patience and support! @manikarnikafilms @zeestudiosofficial @nishantpitti.”
Originally scheduled for release on September 6, the movie has faced a struggle with the censor board over the non-issuance of a release certificate. Ranaut, who directed, co-produced, and stars as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, accused the CBFC of deliberately stalling certification to postpone the film's release.
