About 140 Maoists, including Central Committee member Takalapalli Vasudeva Rao alias Ashanna, alias Rupesh and DKZC Maad division in-charge Ranitha, are set to surrender before Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai in Jagdalpur. Their surrender is expected to weaken Maoist operations in Bastar.
Senior Maoist Manda Ruben, known for the 1991 Jagdalpur jailbreak and carrying a Rs 8 lakh bounty, surrendered before Warangal police. Ruben, aged 67, inactive due to ill health, wanted to live with his family after decades underground.
Several senior cadres, including Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC) member and east Bastar in-charge Niti alias Urmila carrying a bounty of 25 lakh, were eliminated in a single anti-naxal operation.
Joga was involved in as many as 11 attacks against police forces, including the 2010 attack on special forces in Tadmetla forest area killing 75 personnel, 2017 attack on Burkapal police camp killing 25 personnel and 2021 attack in Tekulgurma forest area killing 22 police.
