Torrential monsoon rains have triggered severe waterlogging, landslides, and structural damage across India. With red alerts active in Delhi and Uttarakhand, heavy casualties have been reported from building collapses in Maharashtra and landslides in Kerala amid countrywide infrastructure disruptions
Heavy monsoon rains wreaked havoc across India on Wednesday, causing flash floods, landslides, and widespread transport disruptions. Maharashtra’s Pimpri Chinchwad saw 16 people feared trapped under a collapsed garbage mound, while Surat reported nine rain-related deaths and mass evacuations.
Torrential rain in Delhi on Saturday caused severe waterlogging, traffic jams, and flight delays, disrupting Raksha Bandhan celebrations. Over 100 flights were delayed at IGI Airport, as the IMD issued a red alert for the region.
Delhi-NCR recorded its cleanest July air in over a decade as continuous rain improved air quality dramatically. AQI levels dropped below 50 in many areas. However, waterlogging and traffic snarls exposed infrastructure flaws across the region.
Citizens of the NCR woke up to a pleasant morning today, and many took to their social media handles to post pictures and videos of the refreshing weather.
