Despite promises of quality meals and student-involved mess committees, food-related illnesses continue in Telangana’s government residential schools. Recent incidents in Nalgonda and Vikarabad highlight poor enforcement, prompting criticism from parents and student unions over the government’s inaction.
Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari issued orders on Thursday to establish a committee comprising the Headmaster, Principal, or Warden, along with two other staff members from the institution. The committee is tasked with inspecting the storeroom and kitchen before each meal is prepared, ensuring the quality of provisions and maintaining hygiene in the kitchen.
The officer also instructed the principal of the school to follow the menu fixed by the government and to ensure quality ingredients are used in cooking the food
