The Telangana government has begun implementing the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, requiring educational institutions to record and submit detailed information about foreign nationals and OCI cardholders. Institutions must furnish data such as passport details, course information, and academic performance to the FRRO within 24 hours of admission.
President Trump defended H-1B visas, citing the US need for foreign talent in specialized industries, even amid a crackdown and legal challenges. Florida Governor DeSantis criticised H-1B use in universities, while India-born workers continue to receive the majority of visas.
“With the stroke of a pen, the government has sought to erase a quarter of Harvard’s student body, international students who contribute significantly to the University and its mission,” Harvard said in its suit. “Without its international students, Harvard is not Harvard.”
There are more Indian studens studying in Canada than in the United States, the Government told Parliament. As on date, 13,35,878 Indian students are pursuing higher studies abroad. Of them 4,27,000 were studying in Canada and 3,37,630 students in the US, 8580 in China, eight in Greece, 900 in Israel, 14 in Pakistan and 2510 in Ukraine
Students from countries like India and Bangladesh said trying to find an affordable home in London was extremely difficult because they do not have the references and payslips needed to secure a home, the BBC reported.
