The Forum for Good Governance has urged the State Election Commission to conduct long-pending Gram Panchayat elections in Telangana. FGG president M Padmanabha Reddy cited legal clarity from courts and criticised the SEC for seeking government permission, despite having constitutional authority.
Telangana’s rural local body elections, including Gram Panchayat, MPTC, and ZPTC, will be held in five phases from October 23 to November 8. Nominations and withdrawals have specific dates, and the Model Code of Conduct is now in effect.
The Telangana State Election Commission has announced that the final ward-wise photo electoral rolls for all gram panchayats will be published on September 2. Draft rolls will be released on August 28, with objections accepted until August 30
SEC will complete election preparations and convene an all-party meeting to ensure that there is no delay in conducting the elections after the BC reservations are approved.
With the Telangana High Court directing local body polls by September 30 and Presidential assent still pending, the proposed 42 per cent BC quota is unlikely to be implemented. The Congress may still use it as a political card in the election

"A clash erupted between workers of TDP and YSRCP in Mettavalasa village of Srikakulam allegedly over social media post related to recent local body polls," said Sub Inspector of Srikakulam Police, M Ahmad.
